12 February 2008

Updates:

-Jana approves of PLG, we are just waiting for ok from faculty

Will be brought up at Wed Faculty meeting, and Rachel mentioned she'll be there to speak on our behalf if necessary

-PLG says we can set our dues at whatever we want, as long as they get the designated amount required

We will then officially charge, per year: $15/student and low income, $25/regular

-We now have a Calendar and Voting Information on the new wiki

-Anyone interested in going to ALA annual in Anaheim should discuss plans to go together on a separate page (carpooling, sharing hotel room)

Constitution:

-Official name will be PLG: UA Chapter

-Officer positions

Treasurer will be combined with VP; Student/alum/community Liason combined with Events Coordinator

We will not have a social coordinator position

-Jacy has volunteered to type up the constitution for us (thanks!)

-Once you have read the constitution and agree with it, please initial at the bottom

-We need to have this finished and ready to be typed by the end of *this week*

Voting:

-Post nominations on Voting Information or email them to Nicole, and she will notify people or post them on the page

FYI it is not possible to remain anonymous on the wiki, so nominations will be out in the open

Anyone is more than welcome to nominate him/herself

-Post candidate statements on the same page, in the appropriate area, upon acceptance of nomination

-Jacy has volunteered to count votes and print/count absentee ballots (thanks x 2)

-Everyone interested in joining will be required to pay dues at the 2/26 meeting, which will also allow voting and accepting an election to an officer position; we will take absentee voters' "word for it", and will allow money sent in shortly before or after voting

Next Meeting:

-5:15pm in SIRLS multipurpose room

-We'll ask Margaret to join us at a meeting after elections (2/26)

Open Floor:

-Rachel

Project Vote Smart:Wednesday, February 20th, they will be on campus on the mall from 10am-3pm; some of us will go and get information

West Bank Story movie playing Thursday, February 14th at 12pm at Gallagher in the Union... let Rachel know if anyone wants to go

-Jacy

Thrift stores destroy/discard unpurchased books that don't sell after a period of time; we should consider asking to take the books, where we could then donate them to organizations or prison libraries

Amy's dad works at a prison library here, and she could ask him about that... one of the only prison libraries with a higher education program

We would need to look into books with the covers torn off to see if we could take those or not

There is also surplus auction with books, which would have better quality

-Amy

PLG statement is bothersome to Amy, mostly the semantics regarding "partisanship"; she feels it would mean we're not open to other viewpoints and have to blindly support a certain party line

Amy will provide a link to questionable portion of the statement in the rad ref wiki, and we can discuss it on the collaboration page; we will all look at a hard copy and discuss this at our next meeting 2/19

Wrap Up:

-We can promote PLG at the LSO social event on Friday after the scheduled meeting (7pm on 2/15)

-Dorothy from Cat and Girl has said she'd do our zine fest if that happens, or might be able to draw a design for our tote bags

-Margaret suggested printing on canvas tote bags rather than t-shirts; everyone seemed in favor of this

PRESENT: Amy, Rachel, Jacy, Danielle, Michelle, and Nicole
