17 June 2008
5:15pm

Attendees: Nicole Pagowsky, Rachel Cannady, Rebecca Bliquez, Sho Ikeda, Sara Hayden, Steven Phalen, Dave Wildermuth, Jacy Bell

1. Announcements
a. Read Between the Bars – They have their meetings at the same time we do, so Paul Cash will send us more information after their meeting tonight.
b. Dry River Party – 5 July – as of now, only Nicole and Jacy are possibly interested in going.
c. Alternative Media benefit at Dry River – they would like help with research for a presentation on the Arizona Copper Mine Strike in 1983. If anyone is interested, please contact Nicole.
d. PLG presented at the IRLS 504 Meet and Greet Dinner on 9 June, which went well. Jamba Juice flyers were passed out for the fundraiser.

2. Officer updates
                a. Webmaster – Sho
                                i. No update for the website.
ii. Newsletter – should be ready for print next Tuesday, 24 June.
1. There was a unanimous vote to print the newsletter on recycled paper.
2. If we choose to have a cover, it will be on green paper.
3. Every page will have a watermark of Dorothy’s drawing for PLG.
4. Jacy created a wiki page for naming the newsletter; post any ideas so it won’t be “The PLG Newsletter”.
                b. Secretary/Social Coordinator – Jacy
i. The manager at Jamba Juice has not been available, so an update of the funds raised will be given at the next meeting.
                c. Vice President/Treasurer – Rachel
i. Vantage West requires a $5 monthly fee for the checking account. All the banks she has researched have fees. She will look into whether we could get a Campus Edge account from Bank of America which has no fees or minimum balance, as well as NMI bank.
                d. Events/Fundraising Coordinator – Rebecca
i. The GPSC Start-Up Grant was submitted on Saturday, 14 June. The Appropriations Board should reach a decision by the end of the month.
3. Events
                a. Panel Discussion
i. Rachel met with Tom Wilding last week. He can participate if it’s on a Tuesday, but definitely not on a Thursday. He suggested having Mary Feeney, Don Fallis (ethical perspective) and Kay Mathiesen (social perspective) as panelists.   Don and Kay have never been librarians, so we would need to be very specific for them. We will also ask Jana to be a panelist.
ii. Rachel will double check which night of the week doesn’t have late classes next fall. The panel will be slated for the 3rd week of September. Each panelist will have 15-20 minutes. The entire event will probably go from 6:30 – 8:30pm.
iii. A committee needs to form to delineate the purpose, expected outcomes, and narrow scope/theme of discussion to pass along to each of the panelists. So far, members include Rachel, Nicole, Sara, and Lisa.
iv. Registration will be necessary for food procurement. Rebecca will contact places like Govinda’s (Indian), Chipotle, etc. for options and possible donations/food match on top of the Corporate Partner’s Grant from the Arizona Student Unions.
                b. Web/Accessibility Workshop
                                i. Plan to hold it in October at the Disability Resource Center (DRC).
ii. Jacy will keep in contact with Dawn Hunziker of the DRC who will present the workshop.
                c. Lost Film Fest (LFF)
i. Jacy is meeting with Jennifer Jenkins from the School of Medial Arts on Thursday, 19 June, to discuss funding options for the event. We might be able to host the event at the Gallagher Theatre in the student union.
ii. Nicole will get a list of the films for PLG and Media Arts to vote on for LFF. Try to get one or two well known films, then the remainder unknowns.

Meeting Adjourned: 5:55pm
