1. Announcements
a. LSO/SLA Movie Night – Friday, 25 April, SIRLS @7:30pm
b. Vegan Pie Party - Sunday, 27 April, Dunbar School (2nd St.), 6-9pm – proceeds go to environmental programs/organizations in Tucson
c. Of Friends and Whirlwinds – Saturday, 26 April, Dry River, 4-6pm
d. Yoga Fundraiser – Saturday, 10 May, Main Library in A313, 10:30am - 12pm
e. Nicole bought a binder to keep records and contacts for future officers.
2. Officer Updates
a. Rachel – VP/Treasurer
i. PLG now has a bank account and checks have been ordered.
ii. Once checks arrive, the parent organization membership forms (make copies of these) and dues will be sent in.
iii. As Rebecca will be in town the night before the yoga fundraiser, Rachel suggested that we have a social event (Friday, 9 May).
b. Sho – Webmaster
i. He still needs to speak with Martin Fricke about website space.
ii. The newsletter deadline will remain 12 May 2008. He will create the wiki page for it tomorrow.
Topics:
· Nicole plans to write on the blogging party, what a progressive librarian is, and a review of the Whirlwinds event, as well as a hello/introduction from the president which will include a history/background of Radical Reference and PLG (national).
· Jacy plans to write a blurb on the Welcoming social event with photos, and the how to join/membership form portion.
· Danielle will interview Tom Wilding. If there are any specific questions anyone would like asked, send them to her.
· Suggested: feature a community group each issue; recommendation of SIRLS courses; brief calendar for the next couple of months; explain what a del.icio.us page is, include ours; our statement of purpose; what contributors are reading – top 5; brief book reviews
c. Jacy – Secretary/Social Coordinator
i. She provided the partial membership form to the group; no one had any objections or changes.
ii. The membership form can be included in the newsletter as a double-sided tear out as the last page with the national membership on the second side.
iii. Social Events for IRLS 504 sessions this summer – do a joint mixer with LSO and SLA; have at least one member at each dine around.
d. Rebecca – Fundraising/Event Coordinator
i. She has sent out flyers and emails for the yoga fundraiser.
ii. She created a registration form on Survey Monkey and sent it to Nicole for any suggestions before sending out and posting it on the wiki. Nicole asks that the waiver to sue also be extended to PLG and SIRLS. Rebecca will make the addition then post it to the wiki and listservs.
iii. Startup Grant – deadline has been postponed to 15 June from 15 May, but she has all the materials and is working on the forms.
3. Of Friends and Whirlwinds
a. Brochures need to be printed by Friday. PLG will ask SIRLS to sponsor the printing costs. Print 50 copies on green paper from Fast Copy on campus which provides electronic submission and free delivery.
b. Sho will design the brochure, but needs it by Wednesday, 23 April by 5pm, so make any changes and/or consent on the wiki by then. The brochure must be submitted Thursday to Fast Copy to receive by Friday.
4. Summer
a. Of those present, Nicole, Rachel, Amy, Sho, and Jacy will be available over the summer to meet. Danielle and Rebecca will be available virtually. In June Rebecca will be in Tucson.
b. The meetings will remain bi-weekly, date and time TBD (Nicole will post a page on the wiki to discuss this).
c. Nicole, Rachel, Sho, Amy and Jacy will be available for IRLS 504 student organization presentations: June 8-14; August 1-7.
d. Goals for the summer:
· Film Fest Preparation
· Zine Fest Preparation
· Prison Libraries – Sho has contact info
· Fundraising – tote bags, stickers, Jamba Juice percentage days during both IRLS 504 sessions
· A zine library maybe created @ Dry River – PLG assist
· Prepare workshops/skill shares with handouts which can be used to present at any time
5. Open Floor
a. Everyone should read the email Sho sent out regarding a Tucson Advocacy group; discuss at the next meeting.
b. Subject headings or cross reference blogging party to suggest new ones or change current on Sunday, 27 April – PLG will all agree on one to put on our blog. If you have a personal blog and choose to post one, make sure to read the directions on how it must be tagged. Nicole will post a page on the wiki for this.
c. Nicole practiced her presentation for Whirlwinds event on Saturday. Comments and suggestions include: use a slower pace; good flow; provides good information.
