PLG Meeting
25 March 2008
5:25pm
Attendees: Nicole Pagowsky, Danielle Stanley, Sho Ikeda, Amy Chenail, Rebecca Blakiston, Jacy Bell
Breeze: Rachel Cannady, Rebecca Bliquez
1. Announcements
a. Rebecca Bliquez is the new Events Coordinator. She has posted a
Project Management Page on the wiki.
b. Amy is willing to be general labor for any project.
c. Nicole reminded everyone about PLG’s del.icio.us account.
d. Nicole suggested that PLG offer split membership/dues if people
want to join just the UA chapter and not the parent organization. Nicole will check if other university chapters offer this.
e. Dorothy’s Tote Design – everyone seems to like the overall design,
but a few concerns were raised:
i. Instead of winter apparel and being on a snowy mountain top,
have the design reflect AZ – more desert-like, possibly cacti.
ii. Possible addition of a cat or mountain/wildcat.
iii. Tote Design vs. Chapter Logo – everyone agreed to decide
whether they will be the same once we have the final design and
determine if it will translate on a smaller scale.
2. Officer Updates
a. Rachel – Vice President/Treasurer
i. PLG has $145, so we can now open a bank account.
ii. Margaret Higgins will no longer be the PLG faculty
advisor. Nicole and Rachel will extend an invite to both Tom
Wilding and Leslie Kunkel to be the new advisor next week.
b. Sho – Webmaster
i. 12 May 2008 has been set as the distribution date of the first
issue of the PLG Newsletter.
1. Amy will give Sho the contact information for the prison
library and ask Lisa to provide contact information for the
Juvenile Detention Center (Girls’ Writing Program) for the
newsletter.
ii. The Welcoming Event Survey Results so far:
Bison Witches – 2
The Surly Wench – 2
Old Chicago – 1
c. Jacy – Secretary/Social Coordinator
i. The Welcoming Event will be held Wednesday, 9 April 2008.
1. She will change the survey to reflect this date and the corresponding specials for that specific
night. The survey will be extended until 4 April.
2. She will email a notice for the event with the survey to both the LSO and SLA listservs.
ii. Sonoran UCEDD Partnership/Project – she will ask Kristie Melkers to attend a meeting either on April 8th
or 22th for her to give an overview on what she would like the PLG relationship to be.
iii. Possible Social Events – 2008 Clean Air Days (April) – She will post the brochure and information on the
events and calendar wiki pages.
3. Projects
a. PLG needs to recruit more members and project managers.
b. Peter Young and Prison Libraries
i. We can still bring him out this semester if we can cover his travel expenses.
ii. Nicole ask Deborah Beaumont to send out an email to the Law School listserv if there is anyone/groups
interested in collaborating with PLG to bring Peter here.
iii. Nicole will also contact the Vegan and Animal Rights student groups on the UA campus.
iv. Nicole will ask Lisa Dillivan if she wants to split the project manager position and handle the prison library
aspect.
4. Open Floor
a. PLG, LSO and SLA may jointly send flowers to Tom Wilding. This will be suggested at the LSO and SLA meetings
on Friday, 28 March.
b. Rebecca Bliquez and Danielle suggested doing a fundraiser in which Rebecca (certified) would teach a yoga class
for $5.
c. Nicole will email Bruce Fulton about putting PLG back on the SIRLS calendar and newsletter, as well as adding
PLG onto the SIRLS student organization list on the SIRLS website.
