PLG Meeting

  1. Announcements
    1. We are now officially recognized by the University of Arizona.
    2. We are an official PLG student chapter and our statement is on the main PLG website, as well as our wiki.
    3. ALA Conference – PLG is having an event Sunday evening from 3-5pm and the representatives are looking forward to meeting some of our officers/members.
    4. Our representative, Peter McDonald, has yet to respond concerning membership paperwork and the national PLG statement.
    5. Meeting Frequency – now that we are more organized, beginning next week meetings will occur bi-monthly (every other week). Next week members will discuss possible moving the location of the meetings to a restaurant on University Blvd.
    6. Rebecca Bliquez, a distant student in Phoenix, has filled the Fundraising Coordinator position. There is the possibility of sharing the position with someone in Tucson. Sho will contact Alex, who showed some interest in the office and have an answer from him by next week’s meeting.
 
  1. Officer Reports
    1. Rachel
i.                     In order to set up a bank account, we need $105. She will be accepting dues over the next week from officers and currently participating members, with the expectation to open the account within the next week.
ii.                   She will invite Margaret Higgins, PLG faculty advisor, to the next meeting. If she is able to attend, either Rachel or Nicole will email everyone to ensure maximum member attendance.
    1. Jacy – Social Event
i.                     She presented three possible venues to hold the welcoming/recruiting social event that will occur after Spring Break: Old Chicago, Bison Witches, and The Surly Wench.
ii.          She will create a Social Events page on the wiki and post the information for this event for everyone to get familiar with the possible venues.
iii.                  Sho will help create a poll for members to vote on which venue they would like to hold the event.
    1. Sho – Web Presence
i.                     He emailed Kevin Nutter from the department of Student Programs, and we are now listed on the UA Club website with our correct information with Nicole and Rachel as contacts.
ii.                   Website – Martin Frike is working on getting PLG space on the new SIRLS website. Sho will work on this with him and has set a goal to have a running website by the end of the semester. Once we have the website, the wiki will function as purely a collaboration page for projects.
iii.                  Newsletter – Sho will be the editor of the newsletter. PLG intends to release two newsletters per semester and one during the summer (summer edition will only be available electronically). The goal is to release one newsletter by the end of this semester. The theme for the upcoming newsletter needs to be decided at next week’s meeting, so members should bring ideas to the next meeting and/or email them to Sho.
*Note: Due to Sho’s efforts, Breeze began to fully function properly at 5:51pm.
    1. Nicole – Fundraising Products
She contacted Dorothy of Cat and Girl and AJ Nordhagen about designing and screen printing for PLG tote bags, stickers and/or buttons.
 
  1. Events and Projects
Nicole motioned that there be project managers for each project/event who would in turn give progress reports to Michelle. Those present unanimously agreed.
