05 February 2008

1. Updates:

Margaret is officially our faculty advisor

Non-students are allowed to join, they just have limited benefits (but members must be SIRLS students or library workers).

Rachel and Nicole are meeting with Leslie to get approval to become a chapter 2.7.08

2. Things to do:

Work on wiki collaboration page, so we can get our constitution, officer position descriptions, and PLG statement of purpose completed.

Promote the next meeting (word of mouth, Nicole will email IRLS ADMIN listserv via Leslie, upon approval; we can promote our chapter more at the LSO happy hour event 2.15.08 (?)).

Paperwork and dues: each potential member needs to fill out the sheet with his or her information; Nicole will ask Leslie about setting up a bank account for our chapter, and how to send one check to PLG (since they get half our total dues, and we keep the other half).

3. Constitution

We need to agree on official name. Check the collaboration page to see what you think.

We will need someone designated to type of the final draft of the constitution to submit as paperwork to the UA.

Lets set a goal to hopefully have the constitution completed by next week.

4. Officer Positions

Add your input for descriptions

Start thinking about running for a position, or consider nominating someone

Student/alum/community Promotions Manager position added; it will be combined with Social Coordinator. Rebecca has offered to do this, but I just realized non-students can’t hold office! So it could either be an unofficial position, or we would have to nominate someone else since Rebecca is Alumni (sorry, just thought of this). Ideas?

5. PLG Statement of Purpose

Issues with semantics of the PLG statement have been brought up, as far as using the term “partisan” and the use of the term “progressive”. Further questions/issues or specific questions will be directed towards Nicole so she can ask the PLG representative about wording and chapter statements. Specific issues were in regards to being too political, excluding more conservative people who would still be interested in our activities, but who might not want to be associated with only supporting far-left politics.

6. Voting

Only paying members can vote and only paying members can run for officer positions.

We will officially announce being open to nominations and candidate statements starting at next week’s meeting (2.12.08), allowing two weeks for this and for membership.

Voting will take place on 2.26.08, at the meeting; voting will be anonymous on paper. Absentee voting will be allowed via email. Jacy has offered to be in charge of receiving and counting votes.

7. Other/wrap up

Next time, Jacy (thrift stores/books) and Rachel (Project Vote) will tell us about ideas they have had recently.

We need a social event soon – anyone want to plan something?

Next week, we will meet again in the Union food court.

PRESENT: Lisa, Amy, Michelle, Jacy, Rebecca, and Nicole
