19 February 2008
1. Announcements/updates
-Officer nominations are up -- please add more! We still need to fill Webmaster and Fundraising Coordinator (and Events Coordinator if Michelle does not accept her nomination).
2. Timeline (aka how are we doing)
a. Constitution
-The deadline for revisions will be Wednesday, Feb 20th 12pm; after that, Jacy can start typing up the official copy. This will be posted on our site, printed and stored at SIRLS, and printed and submitted to the GPSC.
-We have voted to separate Secretary and Webmaster officer positions, where Secretary will also serve as Social Coordinator and help Events and Fundraising with promotions. Webmaster will be in charge of electronic information and our web presence.
b. Vote in officers
-Ballot will be next week; anonymous/paper for those in attendence, absentee voting will be due by 6:15pm, and will need to be sent to Jacy (jkbell@email.arizona.edu).
-All students interested will be allowed to vote, and we will accept dues after our constitution is submitted, along with opening a bank account (we cannot open an account until we are an official organization, and we can't be an official organization until we submit our constitution).
c. Open bank account, accept/deposit dues, and send half to PLG, along with our statement
-As soon as we are considered an official club, we can choose a date to serve as a deadline for dues for officers; for general membership, we do not need to set a deadline, but members cannot vote unless they pay dues.
-Dues and paperwork to PLG provide membership in both our chapter and the parent organization. Paperwork to PLG (parent) is necessary so you can gain access to their journal, listserv discussion, and the membership directory. It is simply one page.
-Don't forget, we need to get that statement together!
3. Virtual Students
-We do want to be able to include virtual students; because most of our events will be in Tucson, we can only offer limited positions.
-As far as officer positions, Webmaster would be appropriate for a virtual or local student.
-We also can do projects that do not require physical presence (such as organizing and maintaining a consolodated calendar listing of activist events in the area, including other nearby cities/towns); virtual students could be project coordinators of things like these if we have project coordinator positions under the events coordinator; we can come up with other projects too with further input.
4. Meetings
-We are going to keep sticking with 5:15pm on Tuesdays; we will be in the SIRLS mp room again next week, and can decide where we want to be after that.
5. Wrap up/Open Floor
-Other events or projects we can consider:
Rachel: Project Vote Smart on campus tomorrow (she will email all of us so those interested can arrange a meet up time/place), Human Rights Torch Relay
Deborah: Peace Calendar, Muslim/Jewish walk, The Shanty: Drinking Liberally
PRESENT: Michelle, Rachel, Deborah, Rebecca, Jacy, Paulita, Lisa, Amy, and Nicole
