Nicole - I'd split Project manager with someone here--I can book Peter and find groups to collaborate with (or even split that up as well), if someone else would like to be in charge of the prison libraries part?

Comments/Suggestions/Questions:

Nicole -it might be a good idea to offer one this semester or over the summer? It would really get our name out there

Rebecca - Depending on what kind of workshops we're thinking of, I'd be willing to teach workshops on yoga or meditation.  I have one I do on breath and meditation exercises and one for Desk Stretches--that one might be especially good for librarians or other people that sit in front of computers..

Sounds great to me! Maybe we could also have this coincide with ideas from a book by pattrice jones, entitled: Aftershock, which "is for aftershocked activists and their allies, as well as for people and organizations that practice high-risk activism. It includes practical tips for individuals, organizations, and communities, as well as information about how traumatic events affect our bodies and abilities." We then could also talk about the relation between physical de-stressing and physically maintaining balance, with psychological issues and somatic issues relevant to higher-risk activism.

*It has been decided to create a copyright workshop over the summer for fall to start with

Fall 2008, preferably September

Timeline:

Project Manager(s):

Rachel

Project Support Team:

Lisa, Nicole, Sara

Status updates (most recent first, please):

Comments/Suggestions/Questions:

Nicole - Two professors were suggested to have this debate (in minutes?).

Rebecca (Blakiston) - Possible topics: Should students be able to use Wikipedia as a resource in their research papers?  Should library users be allowed to access sexual explicit material from public library computers?

Lisa:  I suggest Kay and Don for the debate.  What about something to do with children's access or Internet filtering?  I know they just co-wrote a paper on ethical issues concerning censorship and children fairly recently.  Also, wow, I'm actually posting on the Wiki.

This could also entail a panel of like-minded or conflicting viewpoints, of LIS professionals discussing "What is a Progressive Librarian?"

Rachel - "What is a Progressive Librarian?" was the topic I gave Tom and I think that Mary's SRRT would fit in well with this. If we invite Kay/Don, we can give the guidance that Tom suggested and I spoke about at the PLG meeting today (6/16).

So I looked (again) at the SIRLS Fall schedule and it appears that the best night might actually be Wednesdays as the only class that night is Hong’s 515 and it is over with at 6:00..so if we made it 6:15/6:30, people from her class could come over. On both Tuesday and Thursday classes, there are classes at 6:30, so Margaret’s 506 class could not go and neither could Martin’s 520 class. I can ask Tom if he can come on Wednesday then … Let me know what you think.

PS... YAY! I found the page :)

Wed. sounds good!
