At our meeting on 22 April 2008, we made a list of summer goals; this page will be for collaboration on accomplishing what we are setting out to do. If you have other suggestions to add on to this, please do!
1. Create & plan workshop series (with handouts)
-Fact checking
-Copyright
-Medical Searching
-Meditation/yoga (and possibly discussing de-stressing and usefulness of relaxation techniques in regards to trauma induced from higher-risk activism (in relation to Aftershock by pattrice jones -- see PM page for more info.))
-Do community assessments to see what is needed most by the people we would be providing for
2. Organize fundraisers so we have a bigger budget in the fall
-Jamba Juice fundraiser during 504 sessions (Jacy has a contact at the one on Park - the manager)
-Get the totes and stickers printed (hopefully we will get the start up grant and can do this no problem after 15 June)
-Another yoga fundraiser if Rebecca is down for that?
3. Start planning our events for fall; committees should officially form
-Zine fest, possibly @ UA Main Library
-Bring Scott Beiben/Lost Film Fest to town
-Organize event(s) in relation to prison libraries (bring speaker(s) + book drive?)
-Possibly organize Dry River's library of books and zines
-PLG Panel for beginning of September?
4. Have an official website up and running through the SIRLS site, hopefully at least by August
-Have online membership forms and PayPal?
-Calendar?
-Imported blog entries?
-Contact form for questions/comments?
-Flickr?
-Archived newsletters?
5. Present at both 504 sessions to find interested, new students to join
-Print more brochures and fix minimal errors; maybe add more resources
-Create social events -- could include having PLG members being part of the LSO dine around event... at least one member at each location, or all participating members at one location
-Organize an intro-workshop in the beginning of fall, "What is a Progressive Librarian" or something similar... with a panel
Here is more space for comments, planning, and new ideas...
(as suggested/discussed at the Dry River event)
-We should consider taking some sort of action to tell the UA Main Library they should reconsider closing off certain collections to the public
-Engage in outreach to let people know which libraries they can use on campus and how
